Jim Myers
Director of Community Impact
I grew up 30 minutes away from POWER’s Headquarters in a house that seemed to be always filled with friends, families, and neighbors. That open door policy was paired with the core tenants of my parents: treat everyone with respect, lead your life with kindness and generosity, be the voice to speak up for those unable, and create a place of gathering where people feel like they belong.
I started my career at POWER in January 2018 as an intern in the People Experience department. In 2023, I was asked to help start the People Engagement team under our Chief People Officer, Hollie Delaney, and through that work I was exposed to Community Impact. I’ve been blessed in my time at POWER to have only worked under women leaders and been apart of majority-women teams.
When asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?” kids seem to have stock answers: doctor, lawyer, astronaut, veterinarian, or firefighter, and I believe we respond this way because at the core we want to help others and be useful to our community. It’s through this role I’m discovering my own way to be useful, and helping inspire others to find just how capable they truly can be at making a difference.
I was born and raised in Northern Virginia, where I grew up in a family that valued community service and giving back. My mother was involved in various nonprofits, and from an early age, I was immersed in the world of volunteerism. These experiences instilled in me a deep sense of purpose and compassion for helping others.
This passion for service carried with me into adulthood, and I naturally gravitated towards a career in teaching. For nearly a decade, I dedicated myself to the classroom, where I found joy in fostering growth and learning in my students.
This path led me to Power, where I now work with the Community Impact team. Here, I have the privilege of making a difference in the world and providing others with opportunities to get involved in meaningful ways. I am beyond excited to be part of Power’s mission. Together, we are working to leave a lasting legacy by empowering communities, inspiring change, and creating a ripple effect of good.
